Here are some simple instructions to help you get used to your new full dentures. You can expect them to feel strange at first, usually taking a few weeks to get used to them.It is a challenge eating with a new bite and lisping can occur on some words.

Life with Dentures
Full Dentures rely on stability during eating, this can be done by practicing eating on both sides at the same time - with food like mandarins for example try to place two segments one on each side and slowly squeeze and repeat bite the mandarin several times then swallow and repeat with the rest of the mandarin. This helps the muscles and dentures work together, placing even pressure on both sides of the mouth to reduce the movement of the full lower denture. This can help the comfort during eating and help you enjoy your food.
Balanced Eating

For the first few days your mouth may be sore and tender. This is to be expected. Make sure you attend your check visit appointment, scheduled 5-7 days after you get them. Some mouth gels are helpful but if pain persists, please call the clinic to discussed brining your check visit appointment forward.

Check Up
Dentures require maintenance over the 5-8 year wearing time, dentures do break and wear down over time so its best to review the dentures every two years to see how they are functioning and how well they are fitting.
Should you have any concerns about or problems with your dentures, please contact us for follow up appointments.

Cleaning
It is important to keep your dentures clean. Simply rinsing after eating if possible, then a morning and late evening clean with soapy water. Taking care not to drop them in the basin, maybe lay a face washer in the basin to protect and soften the fall as they can break if dropped.
